Check the Evidence Behind the Specification
A useful product comparison links the exact model to its construction, test documents and agreed order specification.

Which standards answer which questions?
| Reference | What it addresses | What to request |
|---|---|---|
| EN 388 | Mechanical glove performance, including abrasion, cut, tear and puncture; impact where applicable | The exact model’s report, full marking and standard edition |
| EN ISO 21420 | General protective-glove requirements and test methods | Applicable report and user information |
| ANSI/ISEA 105 | Hand and arm protection classifications, including cut resistance | The relevant test method and model-specific classification |
| ANSI/ISEA 138 | Back-of-hand impact performance | Impact report and coverage information |
See SATRA’s EN 388 overview, SATRA’s general glove requirements overview and ISEA’s hand-protection standards. Confirm the edition applicable to the product and destination.
Read a rating in its own test system
Do not turn an EN cut letter into an ANSI cut level without the relevant test evidence. Likewise, TPR construction alone does not establish an ANSI/ISEA 138 level or an anti-vibration claim.
EN 388 markings describe separate results, not one overall quality score. Ask which properties were tested and what the complete marking means for the intended task.
Match the documents to the model
- Check the model designation, manufacturer and report or certificate holder.
- Match the tested construction and size scope to the offered product.
- Check the laboratory or issuing body, report reference and applicable dates.
- Review the marking, user instructions and destination-specific conformity documents.
- Resolve differences between catalogue, sample, report and quotation before ordering.
For EU PPE sourcing, review the applicable conformity assessment and EU Declaration of Conformity under Regulation (EU) 2016/425. A CE logo by itself is not the documentation package.
Agree measurable quality checks
Use an approved reference sample and written tolerances for size, weight where relevant, coating coverage, workmanship, marking and packaging. Agree the sampling plan and acceptance criteria with the supplier. Keep the shipment or batch reference with inspection records.
For repeat orders, record any changes to yarn, coating, construction or packaging. Compare like-for-like samples rather than relying on appearance alone.
